Update, Monday, September 24, 2018:
Thank you to all who have pitched in and lent a helping hand in the process of getting the shelter closed, caring for our guests, and in the challenging days following Hurricane Florence. We are very happy to report that at this time, Monday morning, September 24, we are fully operational again, including our Soup Kitchen and food giveaways Monday – Friday.
We have a long road ahead of us as a community. There are more people displaced than ever and many folks have been trapped by flood waters, unable to access food and critical supplies. We’re ready to help our incredible community and will continue to rely on our friends and supporters in this effort.
As of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 at 5 pm, Good Shepherd Center shelter and soup kitchen will be closed. Staff will be shuttling all shelter residents, Lakeside Reserve and Ashley Center residents who wish to go to the County emergency shelters, where they will remain until the County emergency officials deem it safe to close the emergency shelters.
If you are in need of shelter from the hurricane, please take advantage of the County emergency shelters. If you need shelter after the storm, please call 910-763-4424 x100 for information on the intake process.
There will be no volunteers on site Wednesday – Friday. Your safety is our priority. Please call 910-763-4424 x101 for the updates on closing and reopening information. This is the official information line for volunteers.
As we are able to asses damage and needs, we will update the community on how you can assist post-storm. Please be safe above all else.
